It's Delurking week....

Or it might have been last week... there seems to be some debate, but either way come out, come out wherever you are and leave me a comment.

If it helps you can ask me a question and I'm happy to answer in future posts, but no pressure a hello will do just fine.

I’ve posted before, but I just wanted to let you know that I do read (and enjoy!) all of your posts, even those not related to job-finding :)

Consider me de-lurked.

But in my defense, I only comment when I think I have something to add to a post.

And us psych bloggers are relatively few in numbers - I'd love for you to post more psych-related stuff.

Another lurker here. I enjoy reading your posts because it gives me ideas for what I could do post-Ph.D. (But I'm in Ed. Psych, so my opportunities are different, to be sure.)

Thanks for the comments everyone!

JLK- do you have any suggestions for what psych stuff you'd like me to talk about. I also feel like there aren't many of us but it's hard to write about psych stuff if I am trying to keep anonymous as much of the stuff I'd most want to discuss would be really revealing. I'm open to ideas though.

Freckles- Welcome. Do you have a blog? I'd love to hear about your experiences as an Ed Psychologist.

I officially heart Psych Post Doc! I have a question (or two). I think I remember you writing that you would consider going back to academic research. Do you feel your current role has built helpful skills should you decide to return? Or did it just make you appreciate the academic environment more?

PPD, it's hard for me to suggest topics for you because I don't know what your area is. If you look at the "hard" science bloggers, they blog about new research in their areas of interest, ethical dilemmas, examples of bad research, etc.

I would think that the only thing that might compromise your anonymity would be to blog about your own research. I'm a social psych gal, and I have no problem revealing that because that bit of info combined with knowledge that I'm from New England is not enough for people to figure out who I am. So I blog about social psych stuff, critiques of other fields in psychology, other stuff in psych I find interesting, etc.

One question that I love to ask other psychology buffs is what study/theory captured their attention and imagination to such an extent that they decided it was the career for them, regardless of whether they pursued that line of research in later study.

I don't know if you read Dr. Isis over at scienceblogs, or DrugMonkey, SciCurious, Leigh @ The Path Forward, but they all blog about things that are related to their area of interest. It's very cool to read when someone is incredibly enthusiastic about what they do.

I'd love to get some of that from you!

Thanks for the comments everyone!!

Katie- I'll answer your questions later today.

JLK- I'll think about it. Remaining annonymous is important to me and the longer your in the field the smaller the world seems and the harder it is to remain annonymous. I am willing to be that were I identified it would take a lot of my motivation to blog away and I'd want to take down a bunch of my early posts given my feelings about my post doc.

Talking about my research interests, where or what I did my PhD in or my post-doc in makes it very, very easy to find me. But, I agree it would be nice to have more discussions about Psychology in general so I will think about it and see what I can come up with.

I have been delurked! I guess you can say I'm a slow to warmth infant when it comes to commenting. I have been enjoying your blog for a while now. I guess it is time for me to be more interactive aka start the comments a rolling. =)

I've posted before, but I wanted to tell you how much I like your blog.

I was surprised that you continued your own research when you started your non-academic job. It sounds like it's a lot of work, but that it's worked out for you. I'm sick of research. So I guess my question is ... what keeps you interested in continuing your research? How do you keep motivated?

I'm a new reader so haven't really lurked for long. I'm still catching up on back posts so I'm not sure what to ask...

Thanks Shell, Caroline & Albatross.

JLK- I'm planning on answering your question about what got me interested in Psych later today.

Shell- thanks for stopping by. I'd love to hear what you have to say.

Caroline- I'll address you question later tonight or tomorrow.

Albatross- No pressure to ask questions, I've been enjoying your blog for a while, thanks for coming over.

Delurking to say a late 'hi' - always interesting to see what things are like in other work sectors.
