Whoa two good days in a row.!

Yesterday was yet another good day. I spent the day finishing up some analyses from the day before and working on the paper that data is going into. I made really good progress, and the data rock! So I am excited about getting this paper out. It's just my mentor and I, with me as first author and she is currently working on a paper with each of her grad students but wants my paper at the end of next week. I am sure it will move quickly once she gets her hands on it and I'll be well on my way to meeting my goal of 3 first authored submissions this summer.

I also applied for another job yesterday - non-academic research institute. I really hope they call, it sounds like a really great fit. I'm going to send out two more applications today, both of these are academically related research positions. I'm amazed at how many relevant jobs I'm finding right now, but underwhelmed by the lack of contact from any of them after I send in my materials.

Let's hope things turn around soon. I'm trying to be patient and remind myself that they don't necessarily begin contacting people as soon as they get responses to their ads. They need to wait and see who applies. Right? Right???? :)

So my plan for today is

1. Submit two job applications.
2. Work on dissertation manuscript (#2 first authored summer submission).
3. Get cards for mom and grandmother.
4. Have some fun later, maybe take the dogs for a walk and spend some time with my sisters.

Wow, you've been busy on the job front! It's great to hear there are so many places to apply, even if they're not as quick to respond as you might like. Are you following up with a call a week or two after you send your application? That can make a huge difference in getting you noticed. You're right, of course, usually places designate a time frame to collect applicants and then begin sifting through them after they're all in. You can always call and ask when the application deadline is and that will tell you the date after which you should expect to hear.

Sounds like things are going well, overall, and your upcoming day sounds lovely! Enjoy your dogs and sisters. =)

Thanks DeDe.

I haven't been following up with a phone call because most of the posting are on-line and I'll be damned if they have any sort of real (other than or contact information. If they do have contact info they usually specify not to call.

If I have contact info I usually send an email just asking if they received my application and asking if they would like me to send any additional info. But those have been few and far between.

I'm actually about to post about the frustration of on-line job postings...

Ugh... if they're going to be that way then the least they can do is be courteous enough to let you know on the ad somewhere what the app deadline is and when you can stop sitting on your phone or mailbox and get on with your life! Being big and busy does not excuse poor business etiquette IMOP. 'Course nobody seems to ever ask me... too bad, I have lots of important opinions. ;p

Keeping everything crossed for you that you'll get some bites!

I'm interested in your important opinions, of course I have no power to do anything with them. :)

I agree about the deadline in terms of when they'll hire by or at least something to let me know that the process is over. Unfortunately they just don't care about that stuff, especially not with the economy the way it is right now.
